Jesus: Creator or Evolver?
Jesus Says "No" to Progressive Creation,
Theistic Evolution and the Gap Theory
by James A. Boyes, MS
There are no small number of Christians who attempt to harmonize Scripture with so-called "modern science." Influenced by the false assent that macro-evolution (origins from the single-cell organism to complex humanity) has occurred, they drive billions of years of time into God’s Word.
Some Christians believe there must be a multi-billion-year-gap between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, where God used this vast amount of time to "progressively evolve" the creation into what we see today. In other words, these Christians do not believe the literal 6-day Creation event recorded in the Book of Genesis. Instead, they believe the "days" in Genesis must actually be hundreds of millions of years in length. Why? In order to force a theory of progressive creation, (or theistic evolution) upon the Word of God?
What does the Creator have to say concerning the beginning of time and the creation of humanity? Is there a New Testament passage where our Lord Jesus (the Creator, Himself) confirms that Adam and Eve were, in fact, created (brought into immediate existence) at the beginning, as recorded during the 6-day Creation Week? Yes, there is such a passage in God’s Word:
"1. And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan; 2. And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there. 3. The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause? 4. And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, 5. And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?" (Matthew 19: 1-5, KJV, emphasis added)
Here, Jesus does away with the gap theory, macro-evolution, theistic evolution and progressive creation, all in one swoop. In Matthew 19:4, Christ not only affirms the importance of reading and studying Scripture, but confirms the truth of Genesis: Humanity was created "at the beginning," not billions of years later. Thus, we need to critically examine the so-called "evidence" which support human theories which conflict the Word of God.
Christians need to search the literature which supports the truth we find in Scripture, and begin to comprehend that we have been lied to, for many years, about this important truth.
What one believes concerning origins has a direct and lasting impact upon one’s worldview. We already know the negative and deadly fruits of evolutionary thinking upon society (open rebellion towards Jesus, abortion, homosexuality, and spreading the doctrines of spiritual falsehood, cults, and New Age worldviews). Is this what God planned for his children?
We are told by today’s government education and science "experts" that the creation account given to us in Genesis is actually a myth. In fact, many of the professors in Christian colleges and seminaries fail to believe the truth of Genesis, explaining the Creation Week as non-historical, but having some spiritual significance. What foolishness!! Why would our Lord give us a myth? It is not part of His nature, to do such a thing. These professors demonstrate their own dangerous shortcomings concerning the subject, and thereby spread Scriptural and scientific ignorance upon new pastors. Christian parents, teachers, and Church leaders must not allow this dangerous ignorance to continue. The Church rests upon Christ and the truth of His Word, Christianity does not rest upon human theories and spiritual myths.
I strongly encourage anyone in the Christian teaching profession to examine the importance of origins to their way of thinking, to their worldview. I also encourage Christian teachers to study and search the literature which surrounds and supports God’s Word concerning the subject of Creationism. Our God is known as Creator, not the "Great Theistic Evolver."
In closing, we also need to remember that macro-evolution, itself, continually changes. Today’s "educated" explanations evolve into tomorrow’s discarded notions. However, the opposite holds true concerning God’s Word, it does not change. I suppose if you are telling a lie and you want people to believe you, you have to constantly change your story in order to get it to fit today’s new "truth." However, if you are communicating God’s truth to begin with, you never have to change your story -- because God’s truth does not change, it does not "evolve."
